Snorkelling

Snorkelling courses are open to adults and juniors.

All people starting diver training require basic snorkelling skills.  This is covered in initial diving training for adults.  Current BSAC rules mean that diver training can only take place for persons 14 years old or over.  Therefore to encourage youngsters, who hopefully will cross-over to full diving training, we provide snorkel training courses.

Xarifa Snorkellers

Xarifa Sub-Aqua Club is affiliated to the British Sub-Aqua Club and it is organised and run by volunteers.  As members of the BSAC all members are insured by the BSAC and all training, including that of the club Instructors, is carried out to their standards, and following their guidelines.

Requirements

We do not teach people to swim.  Snorkellling courses are only open to those who can demonstrate that they can swim - usually a couple of lengths of the pool.  Formal training can take place for anyone 8 years of age or older.

Qualifications

The BSAC snorkelling qualifications are taken in three stages.  Qualification record books cost £3 (a passport photo is required).

Basic Snorkel Diver  - a 4 week course which cover the basics of using snorkelling equipment in a swimming pool.

Snorkel Diver - a 6 week course, includes 4 short theory lessons and aims to create competent and safe snorkellers.  Completion of Basic Snorkel Diver is an entry requirement.

Ocean Snorkel Diver - a fully trained snorkeller.  Completion of this course requires the trainee to become a member of the BSAC and take part in several open water training events in full open water equipment.  The course takes 10 weeks in the pool and includes 6 short lectures.  Completion of Snorkel Diver is an entry requirement.

Advanced Ocean Snorkel Diver - a snorkeller trained in  specialist activities.  Xarifa SAC does not currently provide these courses, however completion of Ocean Snorkel Diver is an entry requirement.

Snorkel Dive Marshall - an Advanced Ocean Snorkel Diver  trained in  organisation and supervision of snorkeling activities.  Xarifa SAC does not currently provide these courses, however completion of Advanced Ocean Snorkel Diver is an entry requirement.

We also can offer similar courses to youth organisations such as Scout groups.
